Review
I remember when the film of Jurassic Park came out. Millions upon
millions of dollars were spent upon the fantastic special effects and huge
marketing schemes. It had everything - a riveting storyline, lots of
action, comedy, drama, and the kind of camerawork that only The Matrix has
beaten. (or at least from what I've seen)

Unfortunately, the early 90s were the years when developers used to rush
out cheap and nasty games from big films. And although Jurassic Park
wasn't cheap and wasn't nasty, it wasn't perfect.

At least we have the fact that it wasn't yet another platform game in the
guise of Batman, Robocop 1 and 2, Navy Seals and so on.

For those who haven't actually seen the Amiga version, the basic premise
is as follows. The game is split into two parts:

1. An overhead adventurey sort of thing where you control Alan Grant
trying to rescue some kids, (from admittedly rather odd places, why is Lex
deep down in the sewers? And Tim should have been eaten, surely?)
.....solving puzzles and shooting dinosaurs. New for film licences, but
not a new idea in general.

2. A Doom clone. Yes, you have a Doom clone with full texture-mapping on
a humble A500. Set in the bunker you control Dr. Grant again trying to
escape whilst being chased by a load of identical velociraptors. It can be
difficult at times because the window is tiny and the raptors are
extremely hard to beat.

Don't get me wrong. I may sound like I hate this game but that's not the
case. It's just that this game, especially today, didn't particularly
grab me. Everything has been done better before and the two sections
don't adhere particularly well. If you find it for three or four quid
second-hand somewhere, then by all means go for it, but if you want an
overhead RPG, go for Legends, and for a decent Doom clone, you've got
Quake, Doom, Gloom etc.
