(Anonymous) (Unknown) 7th Nov 2012 03:06Brutal: Paws of Fury is a 2d fighting game by GameTek featuring fighting animals with human characteristics. The game features the same controller scheme as Street Fighter 2, with 3 punch and 3 kick buttons.
The Genesis version of the game was the first to be released and is praised for it's superior graphics over the SNES port, it is critiqued for the same control issue that plagued the Genesis port of Street Fighter, without a 6-button pad the user has to use the start button to switch the 3 buttons from punches to kicks.
The game takes place on Brutal Island, where every four years the world's toughest martial artists are invited to compete in the most gruelling tournament, aptly referred to as the Brutal Island Tournament. Only the winner of this tournament gains the privilege to challenge the Dalai Llama, the greatest fighter in the world, for the coveted Belt of Heaven championship.
The game also features a system where the player can not perform any special moves in the beginning, but learns a new special moves every 2 fights. Once learned, the game will display the move commands on screen and allow the player to practice it.
Brutal contains 9 fighters including:
Kung Fu Bunny - A rabbit monk.
Prince Leon of Kenya - A lion rock star.
Rhei Rat - A rat who is an accomplished Thai boxer.
Tai Cheetah - A cheetah who is mentoring Kendo Coyote.
Kendo Coyote - A coyote who is motivated by greed.
Foxy Roxy - A lycra-wearing vixen, who is a politician and social activist.
Ivan the Bear - A bear who claims to be the strongest animal in the world.
Karate Croc - A crocodile bar brawler.
Dalai Llama - A llama who is currently the holder of the Belt of Heaven championship.
A sequel was released exclusive to the 32X entitled Brutal: Above the Claw.
