(Anonymous) (Playstation review) 23rd Apr 2012 05:26"A shooter without any brutality"
Besides Time Crisis this was the only game for the Namco GunCon 45 when it came out, a super precise light-gun for the PlayStation.
Graphics: 8
All the stages are really nice designed and very colourful. You won´t see impressive animations or backgrounds, but you also don´t need them for this kind of game.
Sound: 7
Everything is well done. You have your gunshots, the exploding targets, shattering windows and some other sound effects. The background music is apart from some cool tunes also nothing special, but well done.
Controls: 10
Namco praises the GunCon as THE lightgun for the PlayStation. Well, actually it could have been made better (missing recoil), but anyway it´s ultra-precise. This grants much challenge, because once correctly adjusted, you won´t be cursing the gun any more after missing a target, because you know it´s you who made the mistake, and not the gun.
Gameplay: 10
You can select either the Arcade-mode that contains all the stages from the PointBlank-arcade machine, and the Special-mode, being the same like the Arcade-mode but with a couple of new PlayStation stages. In both modes you can select training, beginner, expert, and very hard-mode. All these modes (apart from the training-mode with only four stages) consist of 16 stages. The computer randomly selects 16 of the over 70 existing stages, and you will have to beat them all to win the game. If you don´t manage it to complete the mission-minimum, like ''shoot at least 23 targets'' you will loose a life. If you shoot wrong targets, you will loose even more lifes.
The stages are all very different. So you have some ''shoot the target''-stages (There you have to shoot bouncing, appearing/disappearing, flying, turning targets), some ''protecting''-stages (you will have to save Dr.Dan and Dr.Don (the ''protagonists), from being killed by piranhas or volcanic eruptions), some ''destroying''-stages (shoot all the bottles, destroy the car), and many many more. For exercising you can select the Training-mode. There you can select all the stages in their different difficulties. Especially the very hard-difficulty is a challenge for every PlayStation marksman.
There´s also a RPG-like story-mode included in the game. This is really strange crap with horrible controls (you will meet Scully and Mulder ?!), but anyway you will uncover some secret stages, that once discovered, will appear also in the Arcade-mode.
Replayability: 10
The huge amount of different stages and difficulties provides much shooting-fun, and even if you have completed all the stages you will always find a challenge in this game.
Final Score: 9
If you like shooting games, buy Point Blank. This game, with its´ high replayability and the easy gameplay is even suitable for children. So Namco released another exclusive game for the exclusive GunCon.
